Man Succumbs to Burn Injuries
A middle-aged man self-immolated in front of the parliament building on the afternoon of January 24, Tuesday, as Nepal’s newly elected Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was leaving. He was a 37-year-old Businessman belonging to Illam district and was recognized as Prem Prasad Acharya, he was taken to a government Skin Burn Hospital in Kirtipur, SP of Metropolitan Police Complex Kathmandu, Dinesh Raj Mainali told ANI over the phone. The Businessman passed away on Wednesday from his wounds. He set himself on fire using diesel in front of the Prime Minister of Nepal.
Prem Prasad Acharya took to his social media and posted a long post talking about his financial and emotional collapse he had been facing from the last some years and said that he had previously made numerous attempts to terminate his life but had been unsuccessful each time. The businessman claimed that the circumstances were not favorable for him and thus he had made the drastic decision.

The video related to the incident is going viral on different social media platforms, the video was posted by a social media user, and in the video, it can be clearly seen, the man is entirely ablaze yet standing, and three to four police officers are running toward him as well as onlookers on the street. Then, after having water thrown on him to put out the fire, he collapses. Later, someone attempts to save him by covering him with a blanket. He had suffered 80 percent burns and couldn’t make it, he died in the hospital today, Dr. Kiran Nakarmi from the hospital confirmed.
The Nepalese government has not responded to this incident till now, though the incident took place in the middle of the road in New Baneshwor of capital Kathmandu, outside Parliament’s house. On social media, several users questioned the Prime Minister’s silence on the incident that happened in front of him.
