Csaba Korosi’s meeting with PM Modi
Csaba kőrösi, President of the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly), held a meeting with Indian PM Narendra Modi on Monday in New Delhi. They discussed the urgent need for reforms to be implemented in order to address global issues.
He added that the UNSC (United Nations Security Council) has become paralysed and dysfunctional as the council is not able to take the right decisions after the Russia-Ukraine war took place. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gave insights into the significance of reforming the UNSC.
Russia Paralysed UNSC
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Russia, being a veto-wielding permanent member of the United Nations, has stated that the UNGA should not acknowledge the four regions of Ukraine that Russia has claimed.
Russia, a superpower, attacked Ukraine, which caused huge problems and lots of adversity for the country as well as for the world. The war disturbed international peace and security. The UN Security Council was unable to prevent the war because Russia has veto power, and the situation has deteriorated, raising serious global concerns.
He added that veto power was granted to Russia so that they could encourage each other in the UN charter 77 years ago, but the opposite is being seen.
Korosi’s Praise for PM Modi
Csaba added that India is one of the countries that has always shown efforts to reform global institutions and has stood front and center in the field of water resources management and conservation. The new transformation ideas have paved the way for the country’s growth.
The UNGA chief later appreciated the PM and was glad to meet him. He liked the ideas and solutions given by the PM to bring about change in societies. He also added that India can be of great help in solving the water crisis through initiatives like the Global Water Information System.
PM Modi Promises to Back Korosi

The PM appreciated Korosi’s suggestions on his approach based on science and technology to find solutions to world problems. PM Modi also gave assurance to Korosi of India’s full support for his presidency initiatives during the 77th UNGA and with the UN 2023 Water Conference.
Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of reforming the multilateral system, which includes the UN Security Council, as well as thinking deeply about contemporary geopolitical realities.
India’s Contribution
Korosi met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in his three-day visit to India. He went on to say that the Security Council was established in 1945 to be the primary responsible body for ensuring that there are no wars, or major conflicts and that peace is maintained in any way. The Russia-Ukraine war is a major issue, and hence there is a need to reform the UNSC.
Korosi highlighted that India played an impressive role and was quite active in Russia-Ukraine war-related issues. He emphasized the importance of bringing about changes and new reforms in order to restore the world’s sanity and peace. Korösi also said that while the permanent members have traditionally not been enthusiastic, they are now ready to consider reforms to the Security Council.
