Stray Kids members Bangchan, Changbin, and Han, also known as 3RACHA, have been promoted as regular members of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KMCA), i.e., the organization’s general meetings will now allow them to vote.
They also lead the list of KOMCA song credits among fourth-generation groups.
As of January 2023, the Korea Music Copyright Association reportedly has about 47,000 registered composers and songwriters as members.
A “junior member” is any copyright holder who wants to join KMCA, however, the board of directors selects just 25 junior members every year to become “full members.”
Three members are selected from the non-mainstream category, namely authentic Korean traditional music, children’s songs, and religion, while 22 members are selected from the mainstream category.
The 25 new members who were promoted to full members this year, included Han, Bangchan, and Changbin of Stray Kids, and Choi Jung Hoon of Jannabi as well as MinGtion (Kim Min-ji) and 24 (Seo Jung Hoon).
3RACHA is the producing unit of JYP boy group Stray Kids and has been heavily invested in the group’s production since its debut. They also contributed to the production of Stray Kids’ mini albums “ODDINARY” and “MAXIDENT,” which topped the Billboard 200 main album list last year.
A number of Jannabi hits were composed, written, arranged, and performed by Choi Jung-hoon, including “For lovers who hesitate” and “Summer”
MinGtion made a name for herself by composing songs for famous Kpop artists, including Twice, Apink, GFriend, Day6, NCT, EXO, Ailee, Eric Nam, and SHINee, among others. Her compositions include Red Velvet’s “Queendom” and Taeyeon’s “All About You.”
24 (Seo Jung Hoon) has produced music for many K-pop artists, including Blackpink, and some of his hits include Blackpink’s “Kill This Love” and “DDU-DU DDU-DU.”
The Chairman of the Korea Music Copyright Association, Choo Ga Yeol congratulated the new members on their promotion and praised them for exhibiting their musical talents through K-pop. He further added that musicians’ rights and interests will also be protected by the association, as the association is dedicated to protecting musicians’ passions.
Best wishes to all of the producers!
