According to the South China Morning Newspaper
It cited a report by the nation’s semi-official Central News Organization as its source, Taiwan may send its largest-ever contingent of armed forces to the United States for training purposes this year.
According to the article, at least 500 soldiers from a combined arms military unit will be sent to the United States in the second quarter of this year. According to the same report, the battalion would be made up primarily of soldiers from the 333rd Mechanized Infantry Battalion and the 542nd Armor Brigade of the Military.
According to the article, it’s going to be the first time that army units at the battalion level, which provides a combination of around 500 army personnel, will make the journey to the United States for training. In the past, training was provided to platoons (25-60 troops) and companies (80-150 soldiers), respectively.
Connection of China in the encouragement of the Training
It has been reported that the training regime that has been going on between the two countries will be stretched in the following months. It is believed that the most recent initiatives to transfer thousands of Taiwanese ground forces to the United States for training are an attempt at countering China’s increasing military influence over the region.
In response to China’s increasing military expansion and its increasingly aggressive manoeuvres, the United States has been working toward assisting Taiwan. China has already been sending aircraft near Taiwan, a situation that has only become tenser following a visit to the Taiwan by Nancy Pelosi, who served as the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives at the time.

The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan
They, on the other hand, have not issued any statements regarding the reports. According to reports, a representative from the national army Command Headquarters stated that “all army relationships with foreign troops are managed in full compliance with making plans.”
According to the source, who spoke on the request for confidentiality, President Trump has signed a variety of bills that have been cordial to Taiwan. One of these bills was the Taiwan Travel Act, which actively encourages all tiers of exchanges.
In furtherance of encouraging the exchange of high-ranking military commanders, “The National Defense Authorization Act for the financial year 2018 particularly tends to encourage exchanges of military experts and army personnel for both the purposes of training and collaboration.”
According to the reports, this is not a phenomenon that has just recently started happening, as Taiwan has previously transferred military officers to the United States for lessons as well as the other way around. On the other hand, they disclosed that it was carried out in a covert sort of way.
China considers Taiwan to be a destabilized region and has not dismissed the idea of annexing the island by military means. Taiwan asserts that it is a sovereign nation and will fight to protect its democratic values and civil liberties.
The United States is Taiwan’s number one supplier of weapons and equipment and has for a long time provided some level of training on defence systems in addition to providing specific guidance on how Taiwan’s soldiers can be strengthened to defend against an intrusion by the People’s Liberation Army of China. Taiwan’s armed services are intended to protect the island from an assault by the PLA.
