Emphasizing his threat of nuclear war over Kyiv and to hinder the involvement of foreign nations in the year-old war, Dmitry Medvedev warned the military alliance of NATO led by US and western allies of Ukraine about a global nuclear apocalypse.
Background
Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev, who has served as the President and as the Prime Minister of Russia between 2008 and 2012 and between 2012 and 2020, respectively, avouched that the unremitting supply of arms to Kyiv risks a global nuclear decimation. The deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia since 2020, Dmitry emphasized that these continuous pumping in of weapons will deteriorate the war situations and fend the possibilities of any negotiations between the war engaged countries. He blamed Ukraine for the adverse goal they are aiming that will ascend to hoodoo and apocalypse. The latest remarks by Medvedev came after nuclear warning by Putin last week and were published in Izvestia, a daily broadsheet newspaper in Russia.

Putin’s Remarks
President of Russia, Vladimir Putin asserted that the government of Kyiv is “serving the interest of foreign powers” and along with its Western allies, has made the people of Ukraine hostage in terms of military, political and economic dominance. These comments were repercussion to the surprise visit of US President, Joe Biden to Ukraine and his support of an additional half billion dollars to the country.

Putin has condemned NATO nations for being the participants in the war with Ukraine by donating arms worth tens of billions of dollars to the country. He even criticised the west of aiming to disintegrate and break up the former Soviet Union and its prime part, the Russian Federation, from the initial days since the Western countries supported Kyiv with arms support.
Biden’s Surprise Visit To Kyiv
The President of the US, Joe Biden, made a symbolic visit to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine on February 20, 2023, after spending 10 hours journey via train. This was his first trip to the war engaged country since the beginning of its invasion by Russia.

The surprise trip of US President Joe Biden in a war zone under regular attack was “unprecedented in modern times”, as per Whitehouse officials. Unlike the visits by his predecessors to wartime Afghanistan and Iraq with the presence of heavy US military, the sight of Biden, present beside the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky at Kyiv is a symbolism of strong commitments by US to support Ukraine. Although the press corps have already assumed of a possible trip to Ukraine by Biden, the visit still was a surprize for everyone. Kate Bedingfield, White House communications director said that the trip was risky and complimented Joe Biden to be a leader who possess the capabilities to fulfil his commitments seriously.
Secrecy In Planning The Visit
Due to security concerns, the trip by US President had not been disclosed until his arrival at Kyiv. A small team of the closest aides, security officers and a medical team accompanied Biden on this trip. Two journalists also accompanied him and were bound not to report the visit until Bidens arrival. Sworn to secrecy, their mobile phones were taken from them.

As per the statement of Jake Sullivan, the US national security advisor, Russia was informed about this trip few hours prior to the departure of Biden to prevent any conflictions. Biden was opposed by the Pentagon and the Secret Service to visit Kyiv. A possible meeting near the Polish border or in Lviv was speculated. This trip is also a proof to positively affect the US voters for Biden administration. Russia initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and was supported by the US throughout the war with over 27 billion dollars of assistance.
