JK Rowling recently claimed that her ex-husband hid the manuscript of her first novel, Harry Potter, in order to stop her from leaving him. But on the other hand, her former husband accused the novelist of being “delirious” and denied all the claims made by her. Moreover, he even professed that he helped his wife write the novel.

During a podcast, the multi-millionaire author gave a statement that his former husband was abusive in nature, and he was so controlling that she was obliged to keep a photocopy of the novel when she was at work as she feared that he would either burn the pages of her novel or keep them as a hostage. The reason for such behaviour was their broken marriage. He did all this in order to stop her from breaking the marriage.

JK Rowling’s statement on her relationship

On a podcast called “The Witch Trials of JK Rowling,” JK Rowling disclosed her turbulent marriage with her ex-husband Jorge. She said that his former husband knew what that manuscript meant to her, and that’s why he hid it, claiming it to be his hostage. She shared how she managed to take her manuscript out of the house when she was sure to leave her husband.
She said that the moment she realized that she would now walk out of this toxic relationship, she saw the necessity to protect her work. She used to take a few pages of the manuscript to work so that her husband wouldn’t doubt her and she could photocopy it. Gradually, she somehow managed to preserve her work in photocopied form, as she doubted that her husband might burn it. She said that she just prioritised two things in her life: first, her daughter, and second, this manuscript.
