According to French club Paris Saint-Germain, Brazilian footballer Neymar will have season-ending surgery on his right ankle and will be out of action for up to four months. PSG announced on Monday that Neymar will miss the club’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday in order to undergo surgery in Doha, Qatar.

The 31-year-old striker, who now has 13 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 this season, experienced severe injury in a 4-3 win over Lille last month. Neymar has an outstanding tally of 18 goals and 17 assists in 29 appearances this season, but he recently sparked controversy after being spotted in McDonald’s ahead of the match against Bayern Munich’s Champions League defeat.

He also injured his right ankle in Brazil’s first World Cup match in Qatar last year, but he was back in action shortly thereafter. This season, Neymar has been in great form for PSG. The team has already been eliminated from the French Cup, but it has opened up an eight-point lead over Marseille at the top of Ligue 1 as it strives for an 11th French championship.
What statement did the club give?

PSG in a statement said, “Neymar Jr has presented several episodes of instability of the right ankle in recent years,” “Following his last sprain on February 20, the Paris Saint-Germain medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a major risk of recurrence,” the club said. “All the experts consulted have confirmed this necessity.”
“Without Neymar, we may have two midfielders and three attackers or three midfielders and two attackers. There are players who can get in behind from all sorts of different positions.” PSG expects that Neymar is going to miss training for three to four months.
Neymar’s Season so far in PSG
Despite the criticism, Neymar was playing well for PSG before getting injured. He has made 29 appearances for the team, making 18 goals and 17 assists. It will be interesting to see if Galtier and company can defeat Bayern without the Brazilian. They have won their last three games, so they come into the game in good shape.
PSG having paid a record-breaking $198 million to acquire him in 2017, PSG is reportedly happy to offload him for between £70 and £80 million. Neymar has appeared in 173 games for PSG, scoring 118 goals and winning four Ligue One titles.

In May 2021, Neymar and Paris Saint-Germain agreed to an extension of his contract, keeping him with the team through the summer of 2025.
Numerous performance bonuses are included in his new contract, including a sizeable raise if PSG wins the Champions League.
