The highly anticipated and stimulating ‘Indian movie’ Bheed was released, capturing the whole essence of the pandemic situation in India . It underscores the horrors and traumatic experiences of the ‘Second World country’ which largely comprises migrant workers and also scrupulously looks into the issue of social inequity which further deteriorated at that time. It highlights the severity of the lockdown situation in India undergone by all sections of society but spotlights predominantly the pathetic situation of migrant workers who suffered the worst.
Social issues Of Covid-19
The 2020 Covid-19 migrant crisis was one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes India has ever seen after the Partition, leaving the country rattled to its core. The nation at that time encountered various uncertain circumstances, from migrant workers walking miles to reach no definite destination to several left with no source of income when placed under rigorous lockdown. Revisiting the same horrors Abhinav Sinha has released the teaser for his next film Bheed (translation- crowd) which depicts the systematic prejudice of law enforcement against lower-class individuals.
Cast and Crew of Bheed
The cast includes Rajkumar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, and Dia Mirza dominantly. Rajkummar Rao makes his first appearance by portraying a policeman and showcases the epitome of a cop, how the one with moral and social ethics always controls justice. Dia Mirza portrays a mother who is unable to reunite with her kid because of the locked state boundaries. A reporter played by Kritika Kamra makes the comparison between the partition of India and border closures and mass migration. The Tablighi Jamaat dispute and the migration crisis are two of the historical events that the film Bheed highlights.
The movie is co-produced by Anubhav Sinha’s Benaras Mediaworks and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. Virendra Saxena, Kritika Kamra, Pankaj Kapur, Ashutosh Rana, Aditya Shrivastava, and Karan Pandit are also included. The partners in international distribution include Reliance Entertainment.
Monochrome movie
After generating audience excitement with black-and-white pictures reminiscent of the 1947 partition of India, the creators of Bheed have produced a film dispelling rumours. The whole film is in monochrome. The photographs, which seem to be from the 1947 India Partition, are really from the 2020 India shutdown when people were once again displaced from their homes. 12 years after the 84th Academy Award-winning French film The Artist, Anubhav Sinha directs this socio-political thriller in black and white.
Statement from Director
Anubhav Singh discussed the reason he chose to shoot the film in black and white. The primary reason was to demonstrate how the images of the socioeconomic difference during India’s Lockdown were startlingly comparable to those of the 1947 India Partition bringing out a strong social message. This narrative is about individuals whose lives changed in an instant with no source of income or savings and at worst not even basic needs.
Trailer insights
The official teaser is 3 minutes long with the opening statement about the lockdown being implemented to counteract COVID-19 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a montage shot, individuals are shown on the streets attempting to get past the limitations while being hit by police officers with batons and clubs. Images depict immigrants attempting to board buses or just walking beside railway lines to get home.
