
Introduction to the historic moment for Indian cinema at the 2023 Oscars
The Dolby Theatre witnessed history being made on March 12 after India bagged two major awards at the 95th Academy Awards.
The song “Naatu Naatu” from the chartbuster movie RRR won in the category of Best Original Song,” and “The Elephant Whiskers” in the Best Documentary Short Film category bagged the most prestigious oscars awards at the ceremony.
The song “Naatu Naatu,” performed at the Academy Awards and presented by Deepika Padukone, received a standing ovation after its performance.

The RRR team, including director SS Rajamouli and Keeravani, lead actors NTR and Ram Charan, singers Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, and choreographer Prem Rakshit, were all present at the ceremony and were thrilled by the announcement of their win!
The song got popular in the west since it won the Golden Globe Award and the Critics’ Choice Award. This is a very proud moment for India.
Director Kaartiki Gonsalves and Gunnet Monga who was the producer for the Documentary “The Elephant Whisperers” won the Oscar in the Best Documentary short film category. The two women were incredibly happy.

The ceremony begins with the announcement of the Best Animated Movie of the Year, “Pinnochio”. The winners of the other 23 categories were also announced.
Everything, Everywhere, All at Once won most of the categories it was nominated in. Seven out of the movie’s 11 nominations were lifted, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and both the Best Supporting Actor and Actress prizes.
The Chinese sci-fi thriller has grossed over $100 million at the global box office now.
Director Kwan thanked his immigrant parents, and Best Supporting Actress winner Jamie Lee Curtis paid tribute to her both Oscar-nominated parents, who could never win. Jamie dedicated this award to them.
Michelle Yeoh, who won best actress for the movie Everywhere Everyone All At Once and Is Malaysian by origin, became the first Asian to win in this category.
The film shows a Chinese immigrant getting caught up in an epic adventure where she must connect different versions of herself in the parallel universe.
The other major nominations for the prestigious award were The Bansheesh of Inshirin and All Quiet on the West Front. All Quiet on the West Front won four awards after Everyone Everywhere All At Once. It is produced in German and is based on World War I.
It won Best Cinematography and Best International Feature earlier, and then Best Production Design and Best Original Score.
Best actor was won by Brendan Frasher for playing a morbidly obese teacher in “The Whale.”
“Avatar: The Way of Water” bagged the award for the Best Visual Category.

Shashank Sen’s All That Breathes couldn’t win the category of Best Documentary. The award was given to “Navalny,” which was about an imprisoned Russian dissident named Alexei.
Best Costume Design was won by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and An Irish Goodbye lifted the prestigious award for Live Action Short.
The Best Hairstyling was also won by “The Whale.”
Top Gun: Maverick won the best sound at the ceremony.
The 95th Academy Awards were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, and he was the single host for the show this year.
