Ravi Chaudhary, an Indian-American, has been confirmed as the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Air Force. The announcement has been welcomed by many in the Indian-American community.

In his role at the FAA, he oversaw the execution of advanced research and development programs that were instrumental in supporting the agency’s commercial space transportation mission. Additionally, he held the position of executive director of the regions and centre operations, where he was responsible for integrating and supporting aviation operations in nine different regions.
Prior to his work at the FAA, he served in the US Air Force for over two decades, from 1993 to 2015. During this time, he completed a range of operational, engineering, and senior staff assignments that allowed him to gain extensive experience in various aspects of aviation and flight safety.
As a C-17 pilot, he conducted global flight operations, including many combat missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also served as the director of the personnel recovery centre at the multi-national corps in Iraq, where he oversaw ground deployment operations.
In addition to his experience as a pilot, he also worked as a flight test engineer, where he played a key role in the flight certification of military avionics and hardware that supported the modernization programs of the Air Force.
Earlier in his career, he was involved in space launch operations for the global positioning system (GPS). In this capacity, he led third-stage and flight safety activities, which ensured the successful deployment and operation of the first GPS constellation. His vast experience and expertise in aviation and flight safety make him a valuable asset in his current role at the FAA.
