Guards detained the former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday outside the Islamabad High Court, according to Pakistani media. According to sources, Khan, the head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested in Islamabad from a courthouse due to a corruption case.
Without confirming his detention, Imran Khan’s adviser Fawad Chaudhry claimed, “Imran Khan’s car has been surrounded.” Requests for confirmation of the allegation from news agency Reuters were not immediately answered by information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.
Azhar Mashwani, a different PTI politician, said that the Rangers had “abducted” Khan, 70, from within the court. He said that the party has issued an urgent appeal for protests to be held around the nation.
They are now assaulting Khan Sahib and tormenting Imran Khan. In a video message shared on the party’s Twitter account, Cheema said that Khan Sahib had been the subject of some action.
A day after the Pakistan Army criticised the former PM for making “highly irresponsible and baseless” accusations against a serving ISI officer without any supporting proof, the former PM was arrested. This sparked a new round of verbal sparring between the strong military and the former PM.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media arm, also stated in a strongly worded statement that Khan’s “fabricated and malicious allegations are extremely unfortunate, deplorable, and unacceptable.”
It said that for the last year, officials of the military and intelligence services had been the victim of allegations and dramatic propaganda aimed at advancing political goals.
The announcement came two days after the 70-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician accused Gen Faisal Naseer of the ISI of organizing attempts to assassinate him at a rally on Saturday.
The PTI leader was previously criticized by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for “maligning and threatening” the army and intelligence services.
“By assaulting Imran Khan, the arrest of Imran Khan is fascism, brutality, terrorism, and hooliganism, which is being exhibited to the entire world. The administration has failed incompetently, according to top PTI politician Sheikh Rashid Ahmed’s tweet.
On May 1, NAB Rawalpindi issued an arrest warrant for Imran Khan, which Rangers in Islamabad have now carried out.
Just hours before being detained by paramilitary Rangers at the Islamabad High Court, the former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan was granted temporary release by an anti-terrorism court on Tuesday for several offenses.
Imran Khan, the former prime minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who was detained in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case, has been referred to a seven-member medical board at the PolyClinic in Islamabad for a physical test, according to ANI, quoting Pakistan’s ARY News.
Just hours before his arrest, at 11:40 am on Tuesday, Imran Khan revealed attempts were made to arrest him for two reasons.
