The Indian Rugby U20 Men’s team is all set to participate in the upcoming championship which is Asian Rugby U20 Championship.

The Asian Rugby U20 Championship will be held from 19th -20th August this year in Kathmandu, Nepal. The team and the squad members name was announced on 16th August, in which Ganesh Majhi was announced as the captain of the Indian U20 men’s team, who will lead the 12 member Indian U20 Rugby team in the Asian Rugby U20 Championship.
“And the search is to look for a rugby player who has all the three golden qualities of the player, in process to rebuild the sevens Indian men’s team is still on. The three major qualities which are looked forward in a rugby player are defense, courage under pressure and aggression in attack, and communication is the most importance with the team throughout the game. And we believe that the players who have been selected for playing rugby in this Indian U20 team have all of these qualities in them,” said the President of (IRFU) Indian Rugby Football Union, Rahul Bose, according to a release.

The Indian U20 squad consists of Tejas Patil, Raj Kumar, Ganesh Majhi, Harsh Raj, Arjun Mahato, Vijay Annabatthini, Mangal Soren, Ashok Hasdah, Monu, Anuj Gaur, Asis Sabar and Vidyanand Kumar. The technical staff and coaches who are travelling with the team include Vikas Khatri (Assistant Coach and current India 15’s Rugby captain), Sourojit Ghosh (General Manager High Performance, Indian Rugby Football Union), Juandre Naude (Head Coach), and Abdul Wahidkhan ( Physiotherapist).
The team is aiming to improve their previous standing and a better place on the podium. On August 15th, the team left for Nepal. Their biggest challenge is to defend the champions, UAE and having a close competition from a formidable teams such as Malaysia and Uzbekistan. The men from India are looking to topple the team of Uzbekistan and Malaysia this time.
“We shall represent our country in the Championship. I am really looking forward to the Asian Rugby U20 Championship event. As I am very honored and grateful to be given such a huge responsibility of being the captain for my country’s team and representing Indian U20 men’s team. We are ready to compete and take challenge in Nepal as our team is trained exceptionally well. This is a very good opportunity for us to improve our game at international level, and moving up in the ranking,” signed off the Captain of the Indian U20 Men’s Rugby team, Ganesh Majhi.
The IRFU (The Indian Rugby Football Union) is responsible for the development and the growth for the sport (Rugby) in India. It is also the sole governing body for Rugby in India. It is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Government of India and it is a full member of Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU), Indian Olympic Association (IOA) AND World Rugby, the release said.
