Ind-W vs Aus-W T20I: Australia wins the series by 2-1 after defeating India by 7 wickets

Australia won the final match of the Ind-W vs Aus-W T20I series by 7 wickets and clenched the series by 2-1 on Tuesday evening under the captaincy of Alyssa Healy.

Ind-W vs Aus-W three-match T20 series was going on in Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy. Both the teams with one win in their hand were looking forward to winning the last and decisive match. The third match of the T20 series was being played on the evening of 9th January. When India was aiming for its maiden win against Australia in the T20 format on the home ground, Australia was eyeing on defeating the team in blue to clinch the trophy.

India manages to score 147/6 in 20 overs

Australia won the toss in the Ind-W vs Aus-W 3rd T20I and chose to bowl first. Openers in blue entered the field with full hope but couldn’t do much as the Australian team was successful in breaking the opening partnership in 39 runs in the form of Shafali Verma’s wicket in 4.4 wickets. Jemimah Rodrigues also returned to the dressing room after a quick dismissal by Annabel Sutherland after scoring 2 runs in 7.6 overs leaving Team India at 60/2. This led to a fall in the run rate.

Further, the fall of back-to-back wickets of Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur in the next 2 overs collapsed the top order of the team in blue. Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma tried to maintain the mid-order and put a good target over the scoreboard for the Aussies. Deepti Sharma’s early dismissal after scoring 14 runs in 18 balls made it difficult for the batting order to score more.

Richa Ghosh alongside the right-arm pacer Amanjot Kaur on the non-striker end hit a few boundaries for six and four before getting bowled by Ashleigh Gardner in 19.1 overs. Pooja Vastrakar and Amanjot made 12 more runs before finishing the inning. Because of Anna Sutherlands and Georgia Wareham India managed to score 147/6 in 20 overs.

Alyssa Healy scores 55 runs

Australian Openers AJ Healy and B. L. Mooney came to the field with an attacking intent. With hitting 10 boundaries, 9 for fours and 1 for a six, Captain Healy scored an essential 55 before getting LBW by Deepti Sharma in 9.6 overs. This was the 16th half century for the Australian Captain in her 150th T20I match. After a positive beginning, T. McGrath also kick-started her inning by adding shimmers to the dominating inning by hitting boundaries and scoring 20 runs before her dismissal in 15.1 overs. E. Perry’s LBW on the next ball without scoring a run on the next ball by Pooja Vastrakar didn’t affect the women in yellow much because of the low run chase.

Phoebe Litchfield on 17* and Beth Mooney’s 55* helped the Australian Team to finish the match with 149/3 in 18.4 overs. By winning the third match of the T20 series by 7 wickets, Australia cliched over the series by 2-1 defeating the Indian Team on their home ground in Navi Mumbai.

The Captain and wicketkeeper of the Australian Team Alyssa Healy won the Player of the Series. Annabel Sutherland was awarded with the Player of the Match for her important role in the initial stages of the inning by taking 2 wickets in 4 overs. This led the end of the long all format face-off of India vs Australia.
