About the film
The action film ‘Fighter’ was released on January 25, 2024, directed by Siddharth Anand. The lead actors are Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. For the first time, these two actors came together for an action film. We can also see actors Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, er and Akshay Oberoi in supporting roles.
The fictionalized catalytic action film was produced under Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures. The film is premised on the real-life story and diverse journey of Dicky Eklund and Micky Ward. They are half-brother boxers from Lowell and Massachusetts, who went through different journeys and many difficulties in their careers.
The makers took inspiration from the ‘Pulwama Attack’ and used it as a model and released it in the time of Republic Day by recalling the horrific day of the deaths of 40 Indian Militaries in Kashmir. The film also takes heavy inspiration and is modeled on the ‘’Top Gun: Maverick’ sequel.
Total Box Office Collection
Despite the film having a bold opening at the box office with a collection of a total of Rs 118.50 crores in its first four days. The film faced a shocking turndown in its collection graph. As per reports, this situation happens from Monday onwards due to the suspension of its release in the UAE and other countries, as well as the competition from other films.
The film collected ₹ 22.5 crores on the day, followed by ₹ 39.5 crores on the 2nd day, ₹ 27.5 crores on the 3rd day, ₹ 29 crores on the 4th day, ₹ 8 crores on the 5th day, ₹ 7.5 crores on the 6th day, ₹ 6.5 crores on the 7th day, ₹ 5.75 crores on the 8th day and finally 5.35 crores on the 9th day.
Critical Responses
According to the review aggregator website of the rotten tomatoes, the film received an average of 5.4/10 ratings from 35 percent of 20 critics.
Except this, the NDTV officials gave the film 2.5/5 stars for the technical aspects but mostly criticized the storyline. India Today gave 4/5 stars for the action and performance of the actors. Times Of India gave 3.5/5 stars for the performance and technical aspects of the film. Hindustan Times wrote that watching Fighter for the paisa vasool experience and good looking performances of the actors and few gravity-defying aerial actions won’t give the audiences a headache rather they will leave with a sense of pride. The Indian Express gave the film 2.5/5 stars and criticized the movie’s excessive nationalism. Film India criticized the storyline and dialogue and left a negative review.
