The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, HRCP has raised some serious concerns over violations. It has raised concern over internet disruptions and frequent power outages in  Gilgit-Baltistan which is a Pakistan occupied region.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has asked for the return of a young girl, of 13 who was abducted. 

Press Conference over Human Rights Violence 

As reported by Dawn,a  press conference was conducted on March 29,2024 by  Munizae Jahangir, who is the Co-Chairperson of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan along with the Regional Coordinator Israruddin Israr, Yasmin Kreem a prominent women’s rights activist and Baba Jan,a political leader. The press conference was conducted to speak about the ongoing human rights violations in Gilgit-Baltistan.

As reported by Dawn, Munizae Jahangir, Co-chairperson of HRCP said  that it is a serious matter that  Gilgit-Baltistan is suffering with power outrages for around 22 hours a day and this is having a severe impact on the lives of the residents of that area. In addition to this, Jahangir even talked about resolving the problem of internet disruptions.

She raised her  concern over the abduction of  Falak Noor, a 13 year old girl , during the press conference she even raised questions about the working of the police with regards to this matter as it is being said that the police is supporting the accused instead of being impartial. 

Falak Noor Case

On March 28,2024, Chief Court Chief Justice, Ali Baig of Gilgit had asked the police of Gilgit to present the abducted girl before the  court.Jahangir asked the  authorities to make sure that justice is served to the Falak Noor’s family. 

 She also said that a 18 year old girl was missing for 24 days and later her body was recovered from Gilgit River. She said in the press conference that there is no forensic lab in the Gilgit region to investigate such cases. 

After seeing the case of Falak Noor and many more similar cases , ANI reported: In  Pakistan forced marriages of young minor girls is increasing in the minority community. Many minor girls from minorities become victims due to this practice. The courts in Pakistan have left the offenders by seeing the “ fraudulent evidence” of the age of these girls.

United Nations Human Rights Council, Geneva

The United Nations Human Rights Council, has raised  concerns over racial discrimination in the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir,Gilgit Baltistan region.

 At the United Nations Human Rights Council 55th Session held in Geneva, the Chairman of the National Equality Party JKGBL,Sajjad Raja, said that  the POK region which is the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, is governed by Article 74 and the region of Gilgit Baltistan by Order 2018. Both Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan give  constitutional protection to the authorities for carrying out racial discrimination. 

Sajjad Raja said that  the natives of the region are not given promotions to hold various positions like that of Chief Secretary, Auditor General, Finance Secretary and Inspector General Police. These positions are given only to those people in administration who  have their ethnicity as Pakistani from the Civil Services of Pakistan.

As mentioned in a news article in The Print, Sajjad Raja said that managerial roles are majorly held by the retired officers in the Pakistan Army and the youth have no option left than to migrate to Europe or Middle East by selling their lands and other financial assets.

Conclusion

 As reported by ANI, Mr. Sajjad Raja, requested the United Nations Human Rights Council to urgently intervene and save the lives of people in that region from the barbaric actions of Pakistan.
