Iran bans education of foreign languages includes English too

Iran has once again passed another law of banning the teaching of all foreign languages in the country which includes English and Arabic in kindergartens and primary schools. The state media had reported. Iran has taken this move of  prohibiting the teaching of foreign languages in kindergartens, nursery schools and primary schools because they believe that at this age, the Iranian identity of the child is being formed said an offical. 

Iran had already banned the teaching of English in primary schools in 2018, but it is being taught from secondary school onwards. The ban on the teaching of foreign languages does not only concern English, but also other languages, including Arabic. Persian is the official language of Iran  Ministry of education had signaled in 2022 that it will encourage the teaching of French to remove the influence of English language.

In September, the government had banned Iranian or dual-national students from attending international schools. Iran has banned the teaching of all foreign languages, including English and Arabic, in kindergartens and primary schools, with an immediate effect, the state media had reported. The decision led to a sudden drop in the number of students in some international schools in Tehran, including French and German institutions. Iran had seen large scale uprising earlier when it’s Women had revolted against the hijab the head covering of women as in Iran it is mandatory for women to cover their head or wear hijab.

Other Laws of Iran that sparked controversy

Iran recently passed a bill that says those dressed “inappropriately” face up to 10 years in jail under the bill. And for which a three-year “trial” was agreed.

Women had been protesting against this law since long but are facing arrests.The move comes a year after protests erupted over the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, who was held by morality police for an allegedly improper hijab.
