Karan Adani promoted to MD of Adani Ports, Names Ashwani Gupta as CEO

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India’s largest port and logistics enterprise, has promoted CEO Mr Karan Adani to the position of Managing Director, replacing Mr Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group. The board of directors of APSEZ has also accepted the nomination of Mr Ashwani Gupta, the former worldwide Chief Operating Officer of Nissan Motors, as the new CEO of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd.

Karan Adani’s achievements as former CEO

APSEZ has achieved exceptional growth throughout Mr Karan Adani’s tenure as CEO, considerably contributing to the nation’s infrastructure development. He joined Adani Group in 2009 at Mundra Port. He was appointed CEO in 2016, following which the APSEZ portfolio rapidly grew with the addition of four ports and terminals in India, Sri Lanka, and Israel.

Mr Ashwani Gupta has nearly three decades of experience in the automotive, retail, and manufacturing sectors, as well as a significant track record in forging key collaborations around the world. He has been at the vanguard of industry sustainability, innovation, and change, focusing on energy transition and customer-centricity. He is a worldwide recognized leader who has driven customer solutions through electrification, autonomous driving, and digital transformation technologies.

Future Expectations from the New CEO

Former CEO and currency APSEZ Managing Director Mr Karan Adani said that he is “delighted to welcome Mr Ashwani Gupta as the new managing director of Adani Ports”, he also stated that his appointment is a ‘strategic move’ to reinforce Adani’s global leadership in the port sector.” APSEZ and Adani Ports are convinced that his knowledge, leadership abilities, and worldwide exposure will generate great growth and foster new international collaborations that are aligned with the Adani Group’s expansion and innovation ambition.

APSEZ has become India’s fastest-growing and largest private sector port developer and operator, with 14 ports along India’s coastline and two ports outside India, thanks to a series of strategic expansions and alliances.

APSEZ, along with its subsidiary Adani Logistics Ltd, is India’s largest and most diverse private rail operator, with a significant stake in both logistics and harbor & dredging.
