The Patiala House court on Tuesday granted an eight-day extension to the custody of Seiminlun Gangte, who was apprehended by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Manipur. The accused is implicated in a case pertaining to a transnational conspiracy orchestrated by the leadership of terror outfits based in Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Manipur Ethnic Unrest Exploited

The objective of the conspiracy is to wage war against the Government of India by exploiting the ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur. Mr. Gangte, a 51-year-old resident of Churachandpur, was booked under the anti-terror law, the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), and other relevant charges on July 19. He is believed to be a prime suspect in the Kwakta Bomb Blast case, according to Manipur Police.

Kwakta Bomb Blast Case

The Kwakta Bomb Blast case, which has led to the arrest of Seiminlun Gangte, dates back to June 21. During the incident, an explosion occurred in an SUV parked at a culvert in Bishnupur’s Kwakta area, resulting in injuries to three civilians. The investigation into this blast has been a crucial element in apprehending Mr. Gangte.

Custody Extension Granted To Seiminlun Gangte

On Tuesday, Mr. Gangte was presented before NIA Special Judge Sachin Gupta, who extended his custody by eight days. The decision was made after considering the arguments put forth by both sides. The NIA had initially requested a ten-day extension. The agency stated that its investigation had unveiled a conspiracy involving militant groups based in Myanmar and Bangladesh, along with select militant leaders in India, aiming to incite violence and create divisions among different ethnic groups. The ultimate objective of this conspiracy is to wage war against the Government of India.

India’s Commitment to Regional Peace and Security

According to the NIA, the aforementioned leadership of the transnational conspiracy has been providing funds to procure arms, ammunition, and other forms of terrorist equipment. These resources are being sourced from across the border, as well as from other active terrorist outfits in the northeastern states of India. The primary intent behind these actions is to exacerbate the current ethnic strife in Manipur.

With the extension of Mr. Gangte’s custody, the NIA will continue its investigations to unearth further details regarding the transnational conspiracy and the individuals involved. The case highlights the importance of collaboration and intelligence sharing among nations in combating transnational terrorism. The Government of India remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the region, while ensuring that those responsible for such acts are brought to justice.

As the investigation progresses, the authorities will strive to prevent the manipulation of ethnic unrest and work towards fostering harmony among different communities in Manipur, thereby safeguarding the nation’s unity and integrity.

In the wake of the ongoing Manipur violence, it is evident that the unrest continues to persist despite efforts to address the underlying issues. The situation necessitates a comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of the conflict, promotes dialogue and reconciliation, and ensures the inclusive participation of all stakeholders. It is crucial for the government to engage with the affected communities, listen to their grievances, and work towards finding sustainable solutions that promote peace, stability, and development in Manipur.

Furthermore, regional cooperation is essential in addressing the cross-border dimensions of the conflict. The governments of India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh should collaborate closely to dismantle the transnational networks that support and perpetuate violence in the region. This includes sharing intelligence, coordinating law enforcement efforts, and implementing joint initiatives to counter terrorism and extremism. By working together, these nations can effectively disrupt the activities of militant groups and safeguard the security and well-being of their respective populations.

In conclusion, the custody extension granted to Seiminlun Gangte reflects the gravity of the transnational conspiracy orchestrated by militant outfits operating in Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India. It serves as a reminder of the importance of robust counterterrorism measures and international cooperation in combating terrorism. The Government of India remains resolute in its commitment to regional peace and security and will continue its efforts to bring those responsible for such acts to justice. By addressing the root causes of ethnic unrest and fostering harmony among different communities, the authorities aim to ensure the unity and integrity of the nation while promoting a peaceful and inclusive society in Manipur.
