PSG, Pronto qualifies for Champions League Knockout. “We are still alive”, says PSG coach Luis Enrique.

PSG, In an intense game with Dortmund on Wednesday, scoops the winner’s side, all thanks to 17-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery. Pronto also makes its way into round 16.

Paris Saint Germain was struggling to make it past the knockout round. Still, it gained back its position in the Champions League when Warren Zaire-Emery scored the equalizing goal against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday, 13th December, 2023.

Paris draws 1-1 in Group F against Dortmund. The team now prepares to face Manchester United, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

PSG coach Luis Enrique comments, “We are still alive”, “No team will hope to play us in the next round”, PSG currently leads in the Champions League only after Dortmund.

Newcastle’s loss at home to Milan eliminated it from the Champions League knockout round without even a title. The Third place went to AC Milan winning 2-1 against Newcastle. Milan took the lead in the 84th as Samuel Chukwueze scored the winning goal.

On this loss, Newcastle’s Manger Eddie Howe commented, “ We are absolutely devastated not to go through”.

The 16 lineup was completed when Pronto finished runner-up in Group H.

Atletico Madrid’s wins over Lazio sealed its position at the top of Group E. However, Lazio already advanced in the charts before the final group of games. The last place got to Celtic who beat Feyenoord 2-1 with a stoppage-time goal.

Manchester City completed a perfect six-win in Group G. Micah Hamilton scored his debut and the winning goal for the team in the same match against Red Star Belgrade. Belgrade lost 3-2.

Seeded and Unseeded draw, PSG is still in the run

The group winners (seeded) and runner-ups (unseeded) include names of former champions who have combined to win a total of 33 out of 67 titles since the European Cup started in 1955.

Group Winners: Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, and Barcelona

Runner Ups: Copenhagen, Napoli, PSV Eindhoven, Inter Milan, Lazio, Paris Saint-Germain, Leipzig, Porto.

It is important to note that the qualifying teams cannot play against a team from the same country and not against the same team they faced in the group stages. Draws, however, are open with no seeding or country restriction later in the season for the quarterfinals and semifinals.

Playoffs qualifiers

Playoffs qualifiers will be unseeded, they will play the home leg first and then against the runner-up teams in the Europa League groups.

Playoffs Qualifiers: AC Milan, Galatasaray, Shakhtar Donetsk, Lens, Braga, Benfica, Feyenoord, Young Boys.

Winners of the Europa League Playoffs will then head to the group of 16 to face teams like Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool, the current reigning champions of the Bundesliga and Premier League.

Last group stage

The top 8 teams will advance to the 16team knockout phase in January 2024. Teams that will be placed 9 through 24 in the standings will be paired in two-leg playoffs to fill the bracket of round 16.
