Sabyasachi Joins Hands with Estée Lauder to Merge Traditional Aesthetics with Modern Luxury

In what Sabyasachi himself quotes as a “One of a Kind collaboration”, the City of Joy and the Concrete Jungle spread their creative wings into each other’s nests to come up with an exotic and what we believe will emerge as an iconic lipstick range.

Shades like Calcutta Red, Rouge Bengal, Coffee Masala, Tropical Tangerine, Udaipur Coral and so on have been curated making the Estee Lauder X Sabyasachi collection a beautiful blend of the East and the West. With shades that capture the regal allure of Indian women along with the dynamic hustle of NYC life, the collection celebrates the colourful story of India with a fun intersection of cultures, ideas, and artistic expressions.

What appears to be an accessory at first glance with a gilded case featuring the Bengal tiger engraved on top and accented with 24K gold plating, is actually the Estée Lauder X Sabyasachi lipstick. With ten matte lipsticks in a warm colour spectrum, the newly released limited edition collection is a must have for all the desi girlies.

Sabyasachi yet again proves his ability to represent India and Bengal on an international pedestal by creating a collection that highlights the rich traditional and diverse heritage all the way from the City of Lakes to evoking “decadence of fragrant summers in India”. The most eccentric part of the collection however is its ability to suit South Asian skin tones.

Shades that are fierce, sultry, chic, sophisticated and feminine fuel the collection with their range being from pinks to nudes, browns, reds and even tangerine. The fusion of both the worlds through this makeup collection has seamlessly bridged cultural boundaries.

Red has been Sabyasachi’s trademark colour. He and his team of expert hand dyers have spent decades honing their ability to produce a wide range of crimson tones. Sabyasachi himself quotes saying he had spent just as much time searching rubies and rubellites for the ideal shade ever since he began designing jewellery. According to him, the colours Rouge Bengal and Calcutta Red were the ones that required the greatest attention, and correctly so.

Shortly after meeting the New York-based Estée Lauder team five years ago, the Indian designer got to work on the partnership. While Estée Lauder was concerned with harnessing India’s might, his focus was on accurately representing India abroad and at home. The goal, according to Sabyasachi, was to design a beautiful product that would make his customers proud and would show them that beauty isn’t fleeting.

Bringing together the rich cultural aesthetics of Sabyasachi with the beauty and luxury expertise of Estée Lauder, their collaboration has been the true definition of a “power-duo”.

This, however is not Sabyasachi’s first rendezvous with an international brand. The recently awarded “Designer of the Decade” had previously collaborated with the Swedish global brand “H&M” which was one for the books given Sabyasachi’s loyal and H&M’s online consumerism.

Sabyasachi’s mapped out collaborations can undoubtedly be exemplifications for the designer’s brilliance not just in creativity and design, but also in business.
