Risk factors of Heart Attacks

As reported by the Times of India, Dr. Ajay Kaul, Chairman – Cardiac Sciences, Fortis Hospital, Noida, says: “The recent incident involving Shreyas Talpade, a seemingly healthy individual at the age of 47, who suffered a heart attack, brings to light the often misunderstood reality of cardiovascular health in younger adults.”

Dr. Kaul goes on to explain that the biggest misconception of heart attacks is that it only affect individuals who are either older or have identifiable risk factors. However, age does not guarantee immunity, while lifestyle choices and genetics play an important role in heart health.

Dr. Kaul shares some common risk factors for this condition:

  1. Genetics

Family history of heart disease can be a significant cause of experiencing heart problems at a younger age. Those with a history of premature heart conditions should be vigilant about their heart health.

  1. Underlying Conditions

Medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol can silently contribute to heart issues. Even controlled conditions could trigger cardiac events if not monitored vigilantly.

  1. Lifestyle

High stress, poor diet, lack of physical activities and smoking are well-known factors that significantly impact heart health. Managing stress and following a healthy lifestyle can reduce the chances of heart attacks.

  1. Ignored Symptoms

Young adults are prone to ignoring symptoms as they differ from one another. Signs like chest discomfort, shortness of breath, fatigue and more should never be overlooked.
