New York Fashion Week 2024 began on Friday, and the most jaw-dropping and stunning fashion highlights from the incredible showcases put out by designers have fashion fanatics excited for what’s to come.

New York Fashion Week A/W 2024 heralds the start of fashion month of February, which sees subsequent stopovers in London, Milan and Paris in the upcoming weeks, collectively called the “Big Four”.

Here’s an overview of the NYFW collection of these 4 designers:

NYFW 2024: Tommy Hilfiger show

Tommy Hilfiger brought the zeal to New York Fashion Week and won the award for best venue by taking over the Grand Central Oyster Bar with his signature prep classics, reimagined with brand-new details and layering techniques. The highlight of the show was undoubtedly, the soundtrack by Questlove and a surprise performance by Jon Batiste, who livened up the audience with an exhilarating performance of his song “Freedom.” Bollywood star, Sonam Kapoor exuded boss girl vibes as she was also seen striking a pose with the ace fashion designer.

NYFW 2024: Helmut Lang show

The Helmut Lang show that kicked off the New York Fashion Week on Friday afternoon took the center stage by a storm with its ensemble of bubble wrap, balaclavas and puffy jackets. Peter Do stuck true to the brand’s spirit of fashioning New Yorkers in outfits they want to wear by building a uniform of sorts, comprising ultra-cozy coats, mismatched plaid separates, and balaclava hoodies that would be the perfect fit for the harshest winter days.

Titled “Protection vs. Projection,” the collection was a union between form and function, versatility and ease. So, there were shirts and trousers which seemed crafted from bubble wrap – an implication of both protection and sensuality, exposing the inner workings of the outfit, like pockets and zips underneath – while other knits rose up to cover the face and body against the elements.

NYFW 2024: Willy Chavarria show

Willy Chavarria’s collections always possess an inexplicable magic which has made him one of the most intriguing talents of New York Fashion Week. Willy Chavarria is combining American sportswear and ’80s power dressing and flipping it on its head, making it ‘cool’ again. His eye for fashion is not only instantly desirable and impeccably made but also provides him with a platform to connect the masses across races, generations, and body types. Additionally, he made his directorial debut with a bold and dynamic short film before the runway show.

Chavarria’s flair continued to be honed – most notably a voluminous silhouette, which at once recalls one of baggy streetwear and the feast of traditional couture. The element of freshness was highlighted in new fabrications and mood of refinement, as one could see sweaters slung elegantly around the neck or some brilliant tuxedo- style tailoring, profoundly pitched at the lapel.

NYFW 2024: Collina Strada show

It’s bulking season at Collina Strada as Hillary Taymour took virility and made it Collina-approved, with musculature protruding through molded latex tops and elegant silk dresses. Models strutted with dumbbells, covered in sweat and putting on their best weightlifting faces. In between the machismo, there were many great draped dresses in plaids and her hallmark muddled prints, plus corsetry and sweatsuits for hitting workouts.

However, the show’s main highlight that got everyone talking was the three models embracing their confident femininity on the ramp. Pregnant model, Maddie Moon donned a mint green shirt dress and lace mini skirt, walked the ramp while displaying her baby bump, while another carried a baby in their arms while wearing a printed floor-length gown. Meanwhile, transgender, black and physically disabled model, Aaron Rose Philip ruled the runway in a lemon green corset dress with a printed skirt.
