What WISER data has revealed?
The current state of the ecosystem has been established for a period of time, however, this pattern is now changing due to the determined efforts of women who are overcoming obstacles and achieving significant success. The dynamic startup environment has led to a new group of female entrepreneurs who are playing a vital role in propelling India’s economic progress.
According to the Women in India’s Startup Ecosystem Report (WISER), there has been a notable increase in women-led startups, reaching 18% between 2017 and 2021. It is widely recognized that female entrepreneurs make substantial contributions to the economy and are key players in creating a diverse and inclusive business environment.
The growing presence of women entrepreneurs is fueling significant business and economic growth in the country, resulting in demographic changes and inspiring the upcoming generations of female founders. Shifting focus from a national to a regional level, Goa is emerging as a favored hub for startups. Women have been instrumental in driving innovation and development within the startup ecosystem. Notably, 33% of these startups are founded by women entrepreneurs, highlighting the increasing importance of women in Goa’s startup scene.
Through various initiatives such as the Goa Startup Yatra, Startup Goa programs, Masterclasses, Founder’s Club, Corporate Startup events, and First Friday with the Design community, the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Government of Goa, has made significant efforts to empower young entrepreneurs and nurture sustainable businesses.
These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to promoting innovation, supporting startup ecosystems, and fostering the growth of Goa’s entrepreneurial community. With a focus on building a strong startup ecosystem, the Department aims to empower local entrepreneurs and establish Goa as the top choice for startups in the region.
Out of 225 startups 76 are owned by female entrepreneurs
The presence of 76 startups with women founders or co-founders out of 225 registered startups in Goa showcases the remarkable progress made by women in the technology industry and the startup ecosystem. Some notable examples of these startups include ASIER Solutions, I-Assist, Blurb Consultancy, Goenkart Digital World, Make it Happen, Ten Trunk, Contractzy, and others.
Goa’s evolution as a hub for startups is emphasized by its improving connectivity, developing physical infrastructure, and the proactive assistance provided by the Startup and IT Promotion Cell (SITPC), a government initiative focused on simplifying administrative procedures. By collaborating with incubators, the SITPC supports startups at different stages of development, contributing to the growth of a vibrant startup ecosystem. Acting as the government’s key representative, the SITPC leads all efforts related to Startup policies in the state, establishing itself as the main interface for startup- related initiatives.
What female entrepreneurs in Goa say?
An entrepreneur in Goa expresses appreciation for the remarkable support they have received. Ms. Gautami Raikar, the founder of Contractzy, acknowledges, “The support we have received has been extraordinary. From the very beginning, we have been encouraged to continuously innovate and simplify processes for people. The Goa government has consistently supported and motivated young entrepreneurs to thrive. Their startup policy will encourage more women to participate in the startup ecosystem.”
Ms. Supriya Malladad, the Founder of Rachane Engineering Solutions, enthusiastically states, “Our startup provides customized solutions for the Hospitality sector. Goa, renowned for its hospitality industry, is the ideal location to launch our business. Additionally, the assistant from FiiRE Incubation Centre, which focuses on Tourism Tech in Goa, and the events organized by the Goa Startup Mission to foster the startup ecosystem, have facilitated networking and provided valuable insights into the local market.”
